Stem Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine Clinics in San Diego, CA
San Diego Orthobiologics Medical Group states a rule that every San Diego patient can apply elsewhere: FDA “does not allow physicians to use stem cells from another person without FDA approval,” and at this time no such product has met the standard. That one sentence helps sort the rest of this list, which runs from Carlsbad to Sorrento Valley to La Jolla. If a clinic proposes your own marrow or fat, you have one set of questions. If it proposes donor cells, you have a much harder one.

When California’s Notice Does Not Apply
California’s section 684 requires a notice for covered stem cell therapies that are not FDA approved. It defines covered therapy to exclude treatment that meets 21 CFR 1271.10 or an exception in 1271.15, and it exempts practitioners holding an FDA investigational new drug approval or device exemption. A clinic working on a same-day, own-tissue basis may therefore not use the notice. You can ask which basis it relies on; neither answer is FDA approval. The linked copy of the statute is dated 2019, so ask the board whether the section has changed. The Medical Board of California licenses MDs.
Fat-Derived Cells Under FDA’s Guidance
FDA’s consumer notice says regenerative therapies have not been approved for any orthopedic condition, and its guidance says isolating cells from fat generally goes beyond minimal manipulation. PRP counts as a blood product there. A Nature Medicine trial of 480 randomized knee patients (440 analyzed) found no cell option better than cortisone at a year, and the American College of Rheumatology’s 2026 update strongly recommends against PRP and stem cell injections in the knee and hip. See also the Los Angeles list.
Details are as shown on each clinic’s website in November 2026 and may change, so confirm by phone. This is not an endorsement or a ranking, and it is not medical advice. FDA has received reports of blindness, tumors and infections from unapproved regenerative products.
