Stem Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine Clinics in New Orleans, LA

Listed

Louisiana’s medical board took a position on this market more than a decade ago. In a 2013 statement, it said it is unethical for a physician to use stem cell products that have not been approved by FDA or that are offered outside an approved FDA research protocol, and that doing so may lead to license discipline. That statement is a useful reference for New Orleans patients. Three orthopedic practices below offer biologic treatments from your own body, so ask each which regulatory pathway its treatment uses.

Southern Orthopaedic Specialists

The group says three of its physicians offer biologic treatments: PRP and mesenchymal stem cell therapy that “uses the patient’s own stem cells, typically taken from the bone marrow.” It says Dr. McNulty advises patients based on the latest research, and its page acknowledges research limits. That is a good opening for asking when the group would advise against an injection.

Dr. Paul Phillips IV

Dr. Phillips is an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon with a Kenner office and a Canal Street location. His site has pages for bone marrow aspirate concentrate, stem cell therapy and PRP. His website is under his own name rather than a group’s, so confirm through the office which health system bills for your care.

Touro Orthopedics (formerly Orthopaedic Specialists of New Orleans)

The practice’s site states that “Dr. Richard Meyer retired effective June 1, 2026,” and welcomes Dr. Hunter Hood and Dr. Paul Gladden to Touro Orthopedics. Its older stem cell page, written under the earlier name, describes cells harvested from your bone marrow for knee osteoarthritis. So first confirm whether the new physicians still offer that treatment. The site says the practice accepts major insurance plans.

Reading the Louisiana Statement

The Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners’ statement of February 18, 2013 is written about tissue-based stem cell products. It says the board was concerned about patients being “subject … to financial exploitation,” and it describes as unethical the use of stem cell products that have no medical indication, offer no possible benefit, have not been approved by FDA, or are offered outside an approved FDA research protocol, or charging an illegal or excessive fee. It acknowledges that some minimally manipulated products fall under a lighter federal pathway. It is a position statement from 2013, not a statute, and it may have been updated, so check with the board. It is still a strong reason to ask a physician exactly what regulatory pathway a product uses.

FDA Today

FDA’s consumer notice says regenerative therapies have not been approved for any orthopedic condition, including when cells come from your own body. FDA’s guidance treats marrow that is minimally manipulated and used for its normal function as outside its tissue rules, and marrow meant for another use as regulated. PRP is a blood product under that guidance, and the Louisiana statement also excludes platelets and plasma.

The 2026 Guideline and a Cost Question

The American College of Rheumatology’s 2026 update strongly recommends against stem cell and PRP injections in knee and hip osteoarthritis. A randomized trial of 480 knee patients (440 analyzed) found no cell preparation better than cortisone at one year. No practice on this list posts a price on the pages read, and Medicare’s national PRP coverage reaches only chronic diabetic wounds, so get a written estimate.

This information comes from each clinic’s website as read in November 2026, and it can go out of date quickly, as the retirement above shows. Please confirm by phone. A listing does not mean recommendation or rank, and only your physician can advise you. FDA has received reports of blindness, tumors and infections from unapproved regenerative products.
